THE NEED FOR A HOME BASE
In 2024, we embarked on the transformative first phase of our long-awaited capital campaign by securing pristine Montana land in Big Sky, MT, marking a monumental step in our journey to support the Special Operations Forces (SOF) community. After years of searching for the ideal location, this land was chosen for its unparalleled privacy, free from covenants or conservation easements, ensuring it remains a haven for those who need it most.
With 85 acres generously gifted by The Wayne & Nan Kocourek Foundation, we are collaborating with a world-renowned landscaping and site design company to ensure every aspect of the property is thoughtfully planned. Each structure has been strategically placed to maximize breathtaking views and seamlessly blend with the natural surroundings. Motorized areas are located away from the structures, preserving a peaceful and serene experience for all while keeping adventure in mind. Extensive hiking and walking trails will weave throughout the property, inviting recipients and their families to explore the beauty of Montana. Every detail has been meticulously considered, with privacy, tranquility, restoration, and stunning views at the forefront of the design.
The ranch will consist of a main lodge for regular programming, a family cabin, an alumni cabin, caretaker quarters, a recreation barn, and trails designed for connection and recreation. These structures will provide a sanctuary for SOF recipients and their families—a place they can always call home.

Task Force Lodge
Nestled on top of 85 acres, the lodge will be home to every active-duty male and female program as well as spouse programs. Views of Lone Peak Mountain, Beehive Basin, and Gallatin Canyon will be the property's focal point, a long-dreamt vision. The lodge will epitomize tranquility, restoration, and camaraderie in the refreshing mountains of Big Sky.

Family Cabin
Our Family Cabin, nestled among the trees with a stunning view of Beehive Basin, is a two-story sanctuary with an open loft layout. It's the perfect place for families to gather and unwind in the rugged beauty of Montana. The demand on these families includes more time apart than together. This open layout was carefully designed to encourage conversation and foster interaction within the family. This cabin will cater to our family programs, which we anticipate will see a 100% increase in the next five years, with a goal of maintaining a 90% occupancy rate year-round.
-
Alumni Cabin
Our Alumni Cabin, with breathtaking views of Gallatin Canyon, is a two-story sanctuary designed with an open loft layout. This thoughtfully crafted space offers a welcoming retreat for all past alumni, providing a place to relax and decompress in the serene beauty of Montana. For those who remain in the fight, this cabin serves as a refuge—a place to escape the demands of a high-tempo life and find solace in the mountains. With a projected increase in alumni over the next five years, this cabin will be an essential haven, ensuring that we continue to serve and support our past recipients long after their time with the Task Force has concluded.
-
Caretakers Cabin
The Caretakers’ Cabin, home to a former SOF family, will house a dedicated husband-and-wife team who have given so much in service to others. Now, they will channel their commitment to provide hope and restoration for the community they served for so long. Situated at the entrance of the property, the caretakers will live on-site, overseeing the full-time care and maintenance of all dwellings and ensuring every aspect of the ranch remains in pristine condition. In recognition of their sacrifices and ongoing dedication, this cabin will be provided to them rent-free as a token of our gratitude.
-
Rec Barn
The Rec Barn will be the central hub for families and alumni to gather and gear up for the day’s adventures. It will house equipment and recreational vehicles, providing easy access to motorized areas of the property that are otherwise inaccessible on foot. Designed with convenience and comfort in mind, the Rec Barn will make exploring the entirety of the property both effortless and enjoyable. Additionally, a thoughtfully designed space within the barn will offer families and alumni a welcoming spot to connect and relax outside of their cabins, fostering moments of camaraderie and shared experiences.

The Property
Supporting the property and its infrastructure is essential to ensuring the ranch remains a place of lasting impact. Carefully designed trails, well-maintained roads, and thoughtfully planned recreational activities will create unforgettable experiences, allowing recipients and their families to enjoy the beauty and serenity of this property for years to come.

The Giving Wall
Located in the heart of the main lodge, within the Memorial Library, The Giving Wall honors the families and individuals who carry the long-term mission of Big Sky Bravery forward. Named to reflect the many levels of belief and generosity it takes to sustain a mission of this magnitude, this wall stands as a symbol of unwavering commitment to what happens on this land: life-saving decompression, reconnection, and restoration for active-duty Special Operations Forces and their families.
